Needs and Opportunities
When I was in high school the first week in August meant it was time for football practice to begin. The beginning of football practice signaled that the start of school was right around the corner.
Well, it’s that time of year again! Local high school teams are hard at work. School will commence soon. Summer is almost over!
In my opinion, this has been a good summer especially as far as missions is concerned. We have taken two mission trips - one to Nicaragua and one to Chicago. Michael Evans is doing a great job of involving our students in local missions.
As summer draws to a close, I want to make you aware of some needs and opportunities. During the weekend of August 14-15 we will be participating in an area-wide marriage conference at First Baptist, North Spartanburg. This will be an outstanding event. You can contact Rick Leonard or Julie Madden for more information.
During the next school year we will be teaming up with Cudd Memorial Baptist Church to start a Good News Club at Chapman Elementary School. Child Evangelism Fellowship provides training for these clubs. We need volunteers to help. If you are interested, please contact Michael Evans.
For the next couple of weeks we will include an insert in our Sunday bulletin asking you to recommend people to serve as deacons. I told someone recently that our deacon ministry is one of the best things about our church. Our deacons follow the biblical model. They are servants not a board of directors. These men work in teams of two to meet the pastoral needs of our congregation. They especially focus on our senior adults. Please pray for them. As you consider who to recommend, please read Acts 6:1-7 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
One other thing I would like to mention is the continuing need for volunteers in our children’s ministry. If you would be willing to help out either on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening, please contact Kim Ridings. This is a great opportunity to impact the lives of our children.
God is good! Let’s keep our eyes on Him!
Yours for the Kingdom,
David
