Back to the Basics
This past Sunday we started an emphasis on some of the foundational elements of the Christian life. We are calling it Extreme Makeover: Back to the Basics Edition. The sermons for the next several weeks will focus on some of the essential matters of our faith like discipleship, prayer, Bible study, missions and evangelism, worship, stewardship, and ministry. Our attention this past Sunday was on Jesus Christ as the cornerstone, and this coming Sunday I will address the question, “Who is Jesus?” Jesus came to give us new life – an extreme life makeover! So we have to start by talking about who He is, and what it means to have a relationship with Him. Then we will move on to the core values listed above.
Let me encourage you to be present for as many of these sermons as possible. I will preach most of them, but there will be a couple of other speakers involved. I have also asked our worship leader, children’s minister, student minister, and discipleship team leader to briefly share their basic philosophy of ministry for their area of responsibility.
I am excited about this emphasis on the basics. It has been a team effort as our staff and ministry leaders have already provided a great deal of input.
Please note that our deacons are listed in this newsletter. Our deacons follow a biblical model of being servants especially to our senior adults. They work in teams and are assigned certain people to care for, and they are also available to meet other pastoral needs as they arise. Please pray for them as they serve our congregation.
God is good – Let’s keep our eyes on Him!
Yours for the Kingdom,
David
