Begin Now to Give Thanks
November is the month when we celebrate Thanksgiving. I have always enjoyed Thanksgiving because it has remained relatively uncommercialized. We do receive a few extra grocery ads, but we are not bombarded with advertisement like we are during the Christmas season. Over the years Thanksgiving has continued to be a time when we can enjoy time with family and friends. It also helps us focus on what is most significant- our relationship with God.
One reason I am writing about Thanksgiving early in the month is I want to encourage you to begin now to give thanks to God. The Bible tells us in a number of places to give God thanks. Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.” In Philippians 4:6, the apostle Paul wrote, “in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Often when we voice our gratitude to God it is mostly about what He has done for us. There is nothing wrong with that. Certainly God has blessed us. He provides for our needs. He often intervenes on our behalf. We should be grateful for all the Lord has done! I want to suggest that you do something before you thank God for all He has done. Praise the Lord for being who He is! His doing rises out of His being.
We worship and serve the almighty God. He has created everything that exists. Colossians 1:17 tells us that in Him all things hold together. The Lord is the only being who exists by virtue of His own power! He is the self-existent one! Our God is worthy of all honor and praise! Let’s continue to give Him thanks!
Yours for the Kingdom,
David
