David Swofford has been in ministry for more than 30 years and has served in the roles of youth minister, associate pastor and senior pastor. In 2009, he will celebrate 13 years as pastor here at Crossroads. David has a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.
David is from Spartanburg and lived in Taylors during his teenage years. He and his wife Karen have been back in Spartanburg since 1996. David and his wife, Karen, will celebrate their 28th anniversary in February of 2010. They have two grown daughters named Sarah and Krista.
David enjoys reading novels and biographies. He and Karen really enjoy movies. Remember The Titans is among his favorites. He enjoys all types of music, especially 70′s music and praise and worship.
David likes to play golf although he says that what he does barely resembles golf! He likes watching sports, mainly football and golf but his favorite hobby is hanging out with Karen.
David says he loves ministry because it is what God called him to do. He loves Crossroads because of the people. His favorite part of his role as pastor is preaching/teaching. He also enjoys building relationships with people.
One of David’s favorite Scriptures is Philippians 1:6, because it reminds him that he is a work in process. In addition to Jesus, his favorite Bible character is Moses. He relates to Moses’ hesitancy about God’s call coupled with the sense of being compelled to follow that call.
