Our minister to children, Kim Ridings, has been at Crossroads for over 25 years and serving in the role of children’s minister for 8 years. Kim was born in Killeen, TX, but has lived in Spartanburg her whole life. She has been married to David for over 20 years and says she is “married to the most wonderful man who spoils me rotten.” David and Kim have two children, Matthew and Monica.
Kim has taught in preschool for over 8 years, and in many different Sunday Schools and kids’ classes. Each year she continues her own education in areas such as Child Growth and Development, Curriculum, Professional Development, Child Guidance, Program Administration & Health and Safety. Kim’s favorite part of working is “teaching the kids and watching their faces light up when they learn something new.”
In her free time, Kim enjoys puzzles, Sudoku and reading. Her favorite books are Christian mysteries, especially those by Terri Blackstock. She likes to listen to Christian and Country music, and her all time favorite movie is Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.
Kim’s favorite scripture is Proverbs 22:6 which says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”, because in her words, “it is important for us to be a good example to our kids so that they can one day be the leaders of our church.”
When asked why she loves Crossroads, she replied:
“Crossroads is such a loving church and the kids are my absolute heart. I love my ministry because of the kids. The kids are the future of our church, so it is up to us to train them up and show them the way. That is a very important job.”
